*** SALE! *** An interesting living fossil that was discovered in China in the 1940's, this upright and pyramidal tree adds a level of class to any landscape. The feathery, needle-like foliage emerges in spring as yellowish-green with hints of burgundy. Amber Glow keeps its yellow foliage through the heat of the summer, as the fall color turns to an attractive yellow-orange. A fantastic specimen tree, where you want the look of a Redwood, but don't have a lot of space. It likes moist well-drained soil in full sun to part shade, but will tolerate wet soils, too. In winter, look for its reddish-brown shaggy bark that adds to year-round interest.

Being a 50 million-year-old living fossil, Dawn Redwood is truly the king of the forest. Discovered growing wild in the deep woods of China in the 1940’s, this close relative of Taxodium (Bald Cypress) and Sequoia trees has a commanding pyramidal shape and can grow up to 100’ tall. It prefers moist, deep, and well-drained soil that is slightly acidic. Dawn Redwood makes a great specimen tree for any accommodating landscape. Give it full to part sun with a 25’ berth and it will reward with soft, fern-like foliage that turns a beautiful reddish-bronze in the fall.
