This native sweetshrub has the typical green leaves on this 8' tall x 8' wide, slowly-suckering, deer-resistant deciduous shrub that have been replaced by ones with dark purple pigment, which holds well through the summer heat. Red, magnolia-like flowers with a light fruity fragrance. But, what is really amazing is that it continues to rebloom for weeks or months and the flowers are held on long pedicles. It does get big, 6-8’ so give it a little room. It is great along a woodland edge.
